The forecast is in: There’s a 100 percent chance of Steve Patterson leaving KSTP’s “Twin Cities Live” later this fall.

“Seasons are changing, my friend,” sa his co-host, Elizabeth Ries, during last week’s emotional announcement.

“Seasons are changing,” he confirmed.

However, Patterson sa he will continue with Hubbard Broadcasting for his radio job, co-hosting the “Donna & Steve” show with Donna Valentine on myTalk 107.1 FM.

“I have really come to love that aspect of broadcasting,” Patterson sa of radio.

Patterson, 37, sa he has also enjoyed his time at “Twin Cities Live,” a daytime life show he joined in 2014. In recent years, viewers have wondered if Patterson — who occasionally appears on ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan” with funny reports about the weather in Minnesota and other topics — would get a national gig.

In a 2020 interview with the Pioneer Press, Patterson dn’t say “Never!” — but the Pittsburgh transplant sa he enjoyed life in Minnesota, despite the weather (or perhaps because of it). He and his wife, Lu, have four young children — ages 11, 9, 6 and almost 2 –and recently built a home in Chaska, where they live near his sister.

He emphasized that again last week.

“Minnesota is home,” he sa.

In his Sept. 15 announcement, Patterson tried to explain his decision.

“Sometimes you get to a point where you just sense a little stirring inse of you,” he sa, “and you think, ‘Maybe it’s time for something new, a new challenge, something different on a professional se.’”

His family was a factor, too.

“I don’t know if you guys know, but we have 18 children,” he joked, ” … and then we got a dog.”

Family life d play a role in his decision, he says.

“I’ve been working radio and tv the last few years, and that doesn’t leave a ton of flexibility in my day on any given day,” he sa.

Now, after he signs off on noon on weekdays, there will be more flexibility.

“When my ks get home from school, I’ll be home,” he says. “When my little guy, Dev, wakes up from a nap, most days I’ll be there. I don’t know how long that schedule or this season is going to last, but I’m excited for however long that season is.”

As for his future professional endeavors, Patterson sa he’s looking into pursuing “some creative opportunities that may or may not come up.”

While a specific date has not yet been announced for Patterson’s departure, he d mention that it was still “a couple of months” away — so expect a long goodbye.

“Of course we are so sad to see Steve go, but this decision allows him to have extremely precious time with his family and we are always supportive of that,” sa Christian Unser, the show’s executive producer, in a statement. “So there are big changes coming but we will have a lot more to share as soon as we can … We’ll have more information about Steve’s final day and what we have planned in the next few weeks.”

The tears are already flowing among colleagues, though.

“I just adore you,” Ries sa as the two struggled to get through the announcement, “and I will miss you.”

We will miss his weather reports. Or, will he still take to television to descend an ice sle while wearing swim trunks, or experiment with how long it takes for eggs to freeze during a cold snap?

“Only time will tell, the opportunities that exist,” Patterson sa of his future assignments during an interview with the Pioneer Press.

“I’m going to slowly approach everything. I don’t feel any pressure to get a plan figured out immediately … what I’m not looking for is a way to be busier. I’m looking forward to having a little more margin in my day.”

Stay tuned.

Just in time to celebrate Mother’s Day, Steve Patterson is back on television.

Patterson, who stepped away as co-host of KSTP’s “Twin Cities Live” in late 2021 to focus on his radio show and other opportunities, has found a continuing one with his occasional appearances on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.”

Tune in to the national morning talk show on Fray (locally, it airs at 11 a.m. Central Time on KARE-11) to watch Patterson interview random New Yorkers about their moms.

“They call me a friend of their show,” sa Patterson in a recent chat with the Pioneer Press. “I call it a privilege, a guest reporter, which is really cool.”

Patterson, who continues to co-host the “Donna & Steve” show on weekday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon on myTalk 107.1 FM, initially connected with the New York-based morning show and its producer, Michael Gelman, when the show aired on KSTP-TV (Channel 5); his weather reports from Minnesota proved material for Kelly Ripa and her co-host, Ryan Seacrest, who reacted with laughter (and shock) as they learned about how challenging every season can be in Minnesota.

Patterson’s reports from Minnesota grew beyond the weather, perhaps because of the on-air chemistry and perhaps because Patterson is funny as a self-described “fish out of water,” proving a Mwesterner’s take on New York City (although he’s actually from Pittsburgh). Patterson, 38, is also good at bantering with Ripa and Seacrest, most recently about wearing glasses.

“Now, these are very chic glasses,” Ripa sa to him during an April appearance for the New York Auto Show. “Is it because you’re getting too much recognition now?”

“This is incognito Steve Patterson!” Seacrest added.

Patterson, who posted the interaction on his Instagram page, felt good about that chat.

“Each conversation with them feels more and more casual and comfortable,” Patterson says.

We asked: Was the timing of his departure from “Twin Cities Live” tied to Kelly and Ryan’s switch locally from ABC to NBC?

His response was that he had been looking to move away from the grind of a daily television show for a number of reasons —  but, he acknowledged “it would have been difficult” to keep making appearances on the national show after the local affiliate switch.

Now that those appearances continue, Patterson shares his New York stories with his radio show co-host, Donna Valentine, who is from New Jersey and reacts with her signature dry wit as he becomes Mwestern-exuberant about what he gets to eat while flying first (the best burger of his life) and getting to re in a Tesla as part of the car service that drove him to the airport to return home to Minnesota.

As for other opportunities, Patterson is a brand ambassador with Desrochers Realty Group; he also now has a Los Angeles-based manager, Jeffery Brooks of Redrock Entertainment, who is helping him conser his vision for the path ahead. One goal, Patterson says, is to help people feel “joyful” after engaging with his content, which on social media includes sharing stories of his family life with his wife, Lu, as they raise their ks in Chaska.

“I am leaning into the family stuff in this phase of life — I’m a dad and our ks are 11, 9, 6 and 2, and so I want to create content and serve families, hopefully get them laughing and feeling encouraged,” Patterson says. “As to what that looks like, we shall see.”

For now, he’s joyful that stepping away from his daily television duties means he gets to be there when the littlest k gets up from napping, or that he gets to drive the carpool for his oldest k’s activities.

“I get to experience the day with them,” he says, “instead of just getting it downloaded at the end of the day. It’s really fun.”

Former Twin Cities Live co-host Steve Patterson announced his newest television gig Wednesday on social media.

Retirement doesn’t last long for some, and former TCL co-host Steve Patterson is one of those who couldn’t sit still long. Just two weeks after leaving his position as KSTP co-host of Twin Cities Live, he took to social media to announce his latest television gig. On Tuesday he posted a graphic inviting guesses.

Hundreds of guesses came in.

“A new music show featuring Steve on the banjo,” joked one person.

“Wheel of fortune?” wished another. “Kding. Wherever it is, best of luck and good wishes to you.”

“The late night show with Jimmy Fallon!?” joked another. “That would be sweet though!!”

The overwhelming response, though, was Live with Kelly and Ryan which Patterson has guest featured on before.

“Live with Kelly and Ryan?”

“Permanent Segments on Live with Kelly & Ryan.”

“I’m going with Kelly and Ryan – he could do that from here and he sa he isn’t leaving MN.”

“Live with Kelly & Ryan was my first thought when you sa you were leaving TCL.”

Patterson revealed in a short Facebook video update Wednesday that he will be — in fact — joining Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.

“A lot of you guys are really great at guessing,” he sa in the video. “I am so pumped to tell you that today, this afternoon, I’m getting on a flight [and] flying to New York City to team up again with my friends at Live with Kelly and Ryan who have been so good to me during these last few years.”

He goes on to share that he’ll be featuring some stories of the holays in New York and promises to share with us when they’ll air so we can watch.

“Every time that I get an opportunity to do something with [Kelly & Ryan], it really is, it’s surreal. I kind of have pinch-myself moments of ‘Am I getting to do this? This is just so fun.'”

Patterson has become an occasional guest and viewer favorite on Live with Kelly and Ryan over the past several years. In 2015 he made his first remote appearance as the Minnesota Weather Guy during a particularly frig polar vortex. During that appearance, he shocked Kelly, Ryan and viewers with his banana hammer; using a frozen banana he’d left outse overnight, he hammered a nail into wood.

Beginning in 2019, Patterson began to feature more regularly with Minnesota weather updates. In January of that year he went viral with a hilarious segment in which he dropped a carton of frozen eggs. Instead of breaking, they just bounced and rolled around to the pleasure of those watching.

In 2020 during the mst of COVID quarantine, Kelly and Ryan checked in with Patterson for updates.

Congratulations and good luck, Steve! We can’t wait to see more from you on a national stage!

Another blow to the Twin Cities TV scene as Twin Cities Live co-host Steve Patterson is leaving the popular weekday afternoon program on KSTP-TV.

“Maybe it’s just time for something new. A new challenge, something different,” Patterson announced Sept. 15, adding that he’s looking forward to being home more with his children to watch them grow up.

“It was tough to come to this decision. I have just LOVED working on the show. I have been so warmly welcomed into so many of your homes every day. And that is something I’ve always consered a real honor. Truly. Not getting to share that special time with you weekday afternoons on television is something that I will really miss,” Patterson sa.

Patterson will continue his radio role on the Donna & Steve show on myTalk 107.1, which airs Monday-Fray from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. What he does in addition to radio, if anything, remains a mystery. Patterson serves as a frequent correspondent for ABC’s Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Patterson sa if any media opportunities arise in big markets like Los Angeles or New York, they’ll have to understand that he and his family have no plans to move out of Minnesota.

His final show at TCL hasn’t been disclosed, but Patterson indicated that it will be later in the fall.

“The flexibility that my new schedule will prove is worth mentioning. I’m excited to be home when the ks get home from school,” Patterson wrote in a lengthy social media post. “Heck, I might even enjoy an afternoon cup of tea and conversation with my wife while the baby is sleeping. Or maybe puzzles. Don’t test me. I’ll do it!”
