25a DEMO: How To Find And Download CEO Compensation And Fundamental Firm Data On Compustat?
In this part I download the CEO compensation variables Salary, Total Compensation, and Option Awards from Wharton’s CompustatExecuComp database, and the annual fundamental data from Compustat to calculate the Return On Assets (ROA).
This video is part of the series 25a through 25h. Initially, the series show you how and where to find CEO/executives compensation data as salary, total compensation, option awards, and the firmspecific data to construct Return On Assets (ROA), SIC codes, CUSIP, on WRDS Compustat database. Secondly, the CEOspecific compensation data is merged with the firmspecific performance variable ROA. Thirdly, the effect of firm performance on executive compensation is tested. Namely, the following hypothesis is tested by means of a linear regression: “Firm performance has a positive effect on executive compensation”. I also construct dummy variable for each of the industries out of the 2digit SIC codes, and add those to the regression models. So I test the hypothesis with fixed year and industry dummy variables. In the fourth place, I calculate the descriptive statistics of the mentioned variables. In the final two videos of the series, I show how you easily can export the summary statistics as the mean, minimum, maximum, etc. to a Word file table, without manually typing the numbers over to a table. Similarly, the statistics of the linear regression are exported to a Word file table, i.e. the coefficients, standard errors, Rsquared, etc. Very handy for your thesis!
