Smoke Monday’s football career once came to a complete stop. Then it started – in the wrong direction.

Eventually he corrected course and found his way to Auburn.

So of course Monday isn’t fazed by his tumble from the 2022 NFL Draft into undrafted free agency.

“When I get to the NFL, I’ll always be betting on myself,” he told the Advertiser. “That’s just who I am, man. I know I will prove a lot of people wrong, what they think about me and the kind of player they think I am.”

The Auburn safety, projected as high as the fifth round, waited and waited. His name wasn’t called. So he signed with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday night in a disappointing end to the draft process.

He’s staying motivated by remembering how much he loves the game that he hopes to someday coach. Monday is reminiscing – his dreams of a professional football career began when he was forced to watch from the selines as a k.

“My first year ever playing, I ended up quitting because my asthma was bad,” Monday sa. The youngest in a family of four, he could only witness the fun his older brothers were having.

“It made me want to go back out and play the game,” he recalled. “I loved it so much. I loved everything about it. It was so fun watching, so I could only imagine how it felt to play.”

Monday’s road from Atlanta to Auburn to New Orleans started during that year off, when his mission was to get in shape physically. His asthma was so bad that he was pulled from school once. But he had energy to spare.

When Monday returned to the football field after one year off, he was nervous to test his lungs. Asthma still affected him when he ran long distances.

His first touchdown tested that endurance more than any moment the rest of his career. Literally. It was almost 140 yards, as he recalls the story.

He was playing running back. After a handoff, he turned and bolted toward his own team’s end zone.

Why?

“I have no clue,” he sa, laughing. “I saw too many people in front of me, so I just ran the wrong way. I can’t remember why, but I know I d. It was kind of just like, ‘Oh wow, that’s embarrassing.'”

But he heard the frantic urges from the seline and realized his mistake before it was too late. Monday turned around and weaved through confused teammates and opponents. Touchdown.

“For me to run that much in one play,” he sa, “I was like: ‘Wow, I’m ready.'”

His birth name was Quindarious Monday, but soon he was dubbed “Smoke” because he scampered around the house so tirelessly. Monday’s great-grandfather, Willie Perryman, gave him the nickname that stuck. Asthma continued to be an obstacle, but it became less severe as Monday aged.

He’s remembering that perseverance as he begins his NFL career with the Saints as an overlooked draft prospect.

“It’s just who I am,” he sa. “That’s just the passion I have for the game.”

Auburn has its first free-agent signing of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Smoke Monday, a former four-star prospect and multi-year starter for the Tigers has signed a free-agent deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Monday was a team favorite and fan favorite during his time on The Plains. He was wely respected by his teammates and his high energy and of play were easy to pull for during his Auburn tenure.

There were questions about Monday’s ability in pass coverage during his time at Auburn but he was a really strong asset when he was closer to the line of scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how the Saints use Monday in their defense moving forward. He could be used as a box safety at the next level.

Monday is the second Auburn Tiger to be drafted or signed to a free-agent deal during the Bryan Harsin era. Cornerback Roger McCreary was drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans.

Monday ran a 4.52 40-time at the NFL Scouting Combine, had a broad jump of 124 inches, and a seven-second 3-cone drill.

It’s easy to see Monday play with passion and aggression on the field. He will probably need to play special teams early in his career where many could see him succeeding.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) – Quindarious “Smoke” Monday always brought the energy and was a hard-hitting safety for the Auburn Tigers. The New Orleans Saints picked Monday up as a free agent.

Coming out of high school, Monday was an Under Armor All-American and led the Carver High Panthers to the Georgia state Class 5A semifinals his senior year. During his Junior and Senior years, Monday totaled 150 tackles and 94 of those being solo. He also notched 11 interceptions. Monday chose to go with Auburn over Clemson and Louisville.

During his first year as an Auburn Tiger, Monday saw a little action against Southern Miss, Arkansas, and Alabama State. Monday recorded 15 total tackles and tacked on one interception against Liberty.

In his sophomore year at Auburn, Monday saw his role as a safety increase. He recorded 20 tackles and an interception. His best performances came in two big SEC games against LSU and Alabama, recording five tackles against LSU and five tackles, an eight-yard sack, and a 29-yard interception returned for a touchdown against Alabama.

Monday earned a starting a spot his Junior year and earned the second team All-SEC and added an SEC player of the week against Tennessee. He notched 73 total tackles on the season, one forced fumble, and one interception against Tennessee that was returned for 100 yards. He also had a career-best performance against Ole Miss with 12 tackles and one sack.

During his last year, Monday totaled 63 tackles (44 solos), nine tackles for a loss, one interception that came against Georgia State to seal the game, and nine past breakups. Monday had his best games back to back against Ole Miss and Texas A&M with nine tackles in each of those games and had another significant performance against Penn State with eight tackles.

Smoke Monday will compete for a roster spot this offseason for the Saints.

Quindarious “Smoke” Monday (born February 19, 2000) is an American football safety for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Auburn.

Monday attended Carver High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Monday was a four-star recruit and the sixth ranked athlete in the of 2018.[1] Monday deced to attend Auburn University over Clemson, Louisville, and Michigan State.

As a freshman, Monday would total 13 tackles, two sacks, and one interception. Monday’s first career start was against Ole Miss, where he was almost ejected for targeting.[2] In his sophomore season, Monday would record 20 tackles, one sack, and one interception that was returned for a touchdown in the 2019 Iron Bowl.[3] Monday would play in all 11 of Auburn’s games in 2020. He would have 64 tackles, one sack, one forced-fumble, and two interceptions. He would have a 100-yard interception returned for a touchdown in a 30–17 victory over Tennessee.[4] He was named to the Second Team All-SEC.[5] In Monday’s senior season, he would tally 58 tackles, two sacks, and one interception. The interception was a pick six tying Monday for the Auburn record for most interceptions returned for a touchdown in Auburn history with 3.[6] At the regular season’s end, Monday announced he would declare for the 2022 NFL Draft following the Tiger’s bowl game.[7] In his final collegiate game, Monday would have five tackles before being ejected for targeting.[8]

Potential recruits to the NFL have been put through all the usual tests ahead of next month’s 2022 NFL draft.

Monday’s real name however is not Smoke. That is simply a nickname he picked up in his younger days.

“I used to just run around the house, so he started calling me ‘Smoke,’” Monday explained in 2017.

Bumper Pool, Arkansas

This is the kind of name that’s almost too unique to believe. His father, Jeff, grew up playing bumper pool at a friend’s house, the AJC reported. Jeff recalled that, beginning as a sophomore in high school, he would tell anyone who would listen that if he had a son he was going to name him Bumper Pool. No one would believe him as he grew up until the actual Bumper came along, and he made good on his word.

Several SEC players may have played in high school against an actual opponent named Jackson High. Now they face the indivual. High is just one of a couple options for all-names from the Wildcats. How about Gunnar Hoak as an honorable mention? According to his official team bio, most people don’t think Gunnar is his real name.

Greedy Williams, LSU

The Tigers have several candates, but Greedy Williams being greedy in the secondary is another good one for the pun lovers. He also received his nickname that stuck from his grandmother, for drinking all of the milk. But don’t stop there. Perhaps most fitting for any team outse of Auburn is Tiger Scheyd, a senior receiver from Miramar Beach, Fla. What’s more, similar to the Georgia duo, another all-namer for LSU is Racey McMath, who’s not the slowest guy around.

Powers Warren, Mississippi State

The redshirt freshman from Minnesota d not have to go the nickname route. Powers is his given name, and his father, Kevin, is the chief operating officer of the Minnesota Vikings, the first black COO in NFL history.

Finis Stribling IV, Missouri

The only thing more impressive that the name Finis Stribling is that it’s on the family mantel. At Missouri, they love family heritage. Along with Stribling IV, there are two other players who are the third person in their family to go by the same name.

Sincere Dav, Ole Miss

Sincere is the given name for the redshirt freshman defensive tackle from Jacksonville, Fla. While Ole Miss has to be at the top of the SEC cultural charts for etiquette and manners, that’s not always something you want out of a defensive lineman. A runner-up choice was Ford Werness, a freshman QB from Raleigh, N.C.

Deebo Samuel, South Carolina

Hardly anyone knows the star we receiver by his given name, Tyshun. Deebo’s nickname comes from the neighborhood bully character in the movie “Fray.” His stepmother also calls him “Sweet Feet” because of his speed.

Shy Tuttle, Tennessee

Unique names run in the Tuttle family, especially for the son of Consuelo. Shy’s full name is Shyheim. The defensive lineman is trying to finish his career following two major lower body injuries: a shattered leg, and torn knee ligaments in separate incents.
