She tried to run and hit.” Elphick then crouches, holding her head in her hands, crying, and claims, “No, I didn’t.” She says, “I don’t want to be recorded.”

The second video starts with Elphick lying on the ground screaming and kicking. “She takes me in. Tell her to stop,” she screeches.

“You keep lying and say I’m threatening you, so I’m recording to protect myself,” replies Ukenta. She doesn’t seem very close to Elphick.

The video shows Elphick screaming and running towards Ukenta who was recording the scene. Ukenta kept repeating that she was afraid the police would believe Elphick if she claimed Ukenta had attacked her when the video showed Elphick charging at Ukenta and Ukenta did nothing but record the scene.

“She’s trying to attack me, no no no,” Ukenta says at one point. “Once the law is here who will they believe?” She says she’s worried the police would believe Elphick about Ukenta because Elphick is white and Ukenta is black.

Ukenta set up a GoFundMe page that had raised more than $38,000 as of July 13, 2021, the day after it was created.

“I am a black Muslima- Nigerian AM and I was treated like it was 1920 at Short Hills Mall. I was attacked and harassed by a white woman and no action was taken by security or the police,” she wrote on the site. I spoke to “Miss Crazy Lady” and advised her that I spoke to the store clerk and so on They shared that what Miss Ukenta had said had happened. Miss Elphick appeared to admit she was wrong and said she was worried she would lose her job and home if the video went online. She had a panic attack because of the videotaping. I told her that Miss Ukenta has a right to videotaping. I asked her several times if she was okay and if she needed an ambulance. And she repeatedly refused. She repeatedly expressed concern about her job and her home.She finally explained that she was going home and I asked if she could drive and she said she was. At this point, Ms. Elphick left the mall voluntarily with mall security.

Ukenta says in a video update, “So I see everyone asking me for an update. I’m at the police station. I have the police report, which is somewhat accurate but very, very long. I’m glad I took it because even the officials said I just showed him the video of her on the floor when I showed him. Mind you, they took her statement first because of course she called the police. And she completely lied. She tries to say that I started filming her which led to a panic attack. At that point she followed me to try and get me to stop the recording.”

She adds:

So I file a complaint against the two officers who replied. I don’t feel protected. I am also filing a complaint about the security of the mall. Victoria’s Secret, in my opinion… what do we expect from them? grab this woman The manager even sent someone down to get security because it was taking too long. So I don’t have any real issues with them…yet. If they give us problems getting the video now, we’ll talk about it. That’s another story.

“The Department of Internal Affairs is now investigating the matter to assess how officers conducted themselves,” the police department said in a statement to NJ.com.* 100121*

“The second woman who videotaped much of the incident asked officers to remove the first woman from the mall because she felt threatened,” NJ.com described the police report. “The officers stated that they had no authority to do so because they had no evidence that an identifiable offense or crime had been committed.”

4. Elphick says she worked as a teacher’s assistant, but the Cedar Grove School District says she’s not an employee There, she says she’s a teacher. “My name is Abby Elphick,” she wrote.

“I have been diagnosed with chronic constipation and pelvic floor dysfunction. I am a 24 year old woman with a colostomy. I am a paraprofessional/teacher working with children. I love walking outside, shopping, eating out! I want to feel comfortable with people like me who have an ostomy to know I’m not alone!”

Online records show she has ties to Cedar Grove and Newark, New Jersey . The Cedar Grove School District has denied that she is an employee there, writing in a note at the top of its homepage: “The person involved at the Short Hills Mall on July 11, 2021 is and has never been an employee of Cedar Grove Board of Education.”

Elphick wrote on a Classmates.com profile: “I go to school at 24 to teach preschoolers as a Child Development Associate. I graduated from Cedar Grove High School in June 2014 when I was 18.” The Cedar Grove Times credited Elphick in a 2013 feature film about her developmentally disabled brother, stating that he had a colostomy. Elphick is pictured with her brother and parents Kim and Andrew Elphick.

Elphick does not have a state license in the New Jersey State database.

5. Elphick is not related to a Secaucus police lieutenant of the same surname, although it has been rumored on social media that she is the daughter of a police officer

A police lieutenant created a Twitter account just to counter this, what she wrote was wrong accusations that Elphick is related to her.

“Wrong. This is me and I have no children. I have no idea who Abigail is either,” she wrote in response to such a claim on Twitter covered by the Millburn Police Department.Secaucus has no relevance to this case other than a surname.”

She added, “Because I’m the officer, everyone says that’s my daughter. I have no children and I don’t know who Abigail is. Just happened to have the same name.”

She concluded, “I’ve received personal messages about what was posted. I created this account to tackle it. It spread too quickly for me to address it beforehand. Call agency tomorrow and I’ll be happy to verify my entity.”
