Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivers remarks on evacuation efforts in Afghanistan. President Joe Biden told G7 leaders during an emergency meeting on Tuesday that he will keep the timeline previously set for the full U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, though the U.S. is also making contingency plans should an extension proves necessary.
“We are currently on pace to finish by August the 31st,” Biden said from the West Wing of the White House, in his third address on Afghanistan since the country fell to the Taliban.

RETTUNG aus AFGHANISTAN: Taliban blockieren Flughafen Kabul für Afghanen und kritisieren die USA
Rund um den Flughafen Kabul harren weiter Tausende Menschen aus, in der Hoffnung auf einen Evakuierungsflug ins Ausland. So zeigen am Mittwoch in sozialen Medien geteilte Videos Hunderte Afghanen, die teils bis zu den Hüften in einem Wassergraben vor einer Wand zum Flughafengelände stehen und warten. Ein Mann, der den Wassergraben hochgeklettert ist, wird von zwei Soldaten zurückgedrängt.
Aufgrund der weiter desaströsen Lage rund um die Eingänge zum Flughafen haben Länder begonnen, ihre zu Evakuierenden anderweitig in den Flughafen zu bringen. Zwei Personen, die auf einer USListe zur Evakuierung standen, sagten, sie seien zu einem Ort in der Stadt gerufen worden und von dort mit in einem gepanzerten Konvoi in den Flughafen gebracht worden.
Eineinhalb Wochen nach der Machtübernahme der militantislamistischen Taliban schließt sich Zeitfenster für die vom Militär gesicherten Evakuierungen aus Afghanistan schnell. USPräsident Joe Biden will vorerst am Abzug der USTruppen bis kommenden Dienstag festhalten, obwohl noch viele Tausend Afghanen auf eine Ausreise hoffen. Auch Bitten europäischer Verbündeter, noch länger Evakuierungen am Flughafen Kabul zu ermöglichen, stimmten Biden nicht um.

Die internationale Staatengemeinschaft will die Taliban nicht an ihren Worten, sondern an ihren Taten messen. Und die sind schon jetzt brutal und heftig: Die Vereinten Nationen berichten in manchen Regionen von Massenhinrichtungen von Zivilisten und von Soldaten, die sich ergeben haben. In Kabul blockieren die Islamisten für die einheimische Bevölkerung den Flughafen – wollen keinen mehr ausreisen lassen.
Die USA halten vorerst an dem Plan fest, ihre Truppen bis zum 31. August aus Afghanistan abzuziehen. Wie das Weiße Haus mitteilte, erklärte USPräsident Joe Biden am Dienstag bei der Videoschalte der G7Staats und Regierungschefs, dass die Vereinigten Staaten momentan im Zeitplan seien, die gesetzte Frist einzuhalten. Biden habe zugleich klar gemacht, dass das Ende des Einsatzes von der Erfüllung der USZiele abhänge. Er habe das Außen und Verteidigungsministerium angewiesen, Alternativpläne zu erarbeiten, «um den Zeitplan anzupassen, falls das nötig sein sollte». Der laufende internationale Militäreinsatz zur Evakuierung westlicher Staatsbürger, afghanischer Ortskräfte und anderer Schutzbedürftiger ist von der USTruppenpräsenz abhängig.
Das USMilitär kontrolliert derzeit den Flughafen in der afghanischen Hauptstadt Kabul und sichert die internationale Evakuierungsmission mit aktuell rund 5800 Soldaten ab. Die verbliebenen internationalen Kräfte am Airport sind bei ihren Evakuierungsaktionen auf den Schutz durch USTruppen angewiesen. Die europäischen Verbündeten in London, Paris und Berlin hatten auf eine Verlängerung der Mission gedrängt, da es fraglich ist, ob es gelingt, innerhalb der verbleibenden Tage bis zum Monatsende alle westlichen Staatsbürger, afghanischen Helfer und anderen Schutzbedürftigen außer Landes zu bringen.
Biden ließ sich jedoch vorerst nicht dazu bringen, seinen Zeitplan abzuändern. Der Abschluss des Einsatzes hänge auch von der «anhaltenden Koordinierung mit den Taliban ab», inklusive des Zugangs zum Flughafen für jene, die evakuiert werden sollen, erklärte die Sprecherin des Weißen Hauses, Jen Psaki, in einer schriftlichen Stellungnahme. Biden habe in der Schalte mit den G7Partnern auch betont, dass das Risiko der Mission angesichts der zunehmenden Bedrohung durch einen örtlichen Ableger der Terrormiliz Islamischer Staat jeden Tag zunehme. Eine öffentliche Ansprache von Biden selbst wiederum wurde am Dienstag mehrfach verschoben um mehrere Stunden.
Bidens Nationaler Sicherheitsberater, Jake Sullivan, hatte am Wochenende gesagt, die Bedrohung durch einen möglichen Anschlag eines Anschlags der Terrormiliz IS am Flughafen Kabul oder in der Umgebung sei «akut». Auch die Bundeswehr ist deswegen in Sorge. Man habe Signale aus amerikanischen Quellen, aber auch eigene Erkenntnisse, dass zunehmend potenzielle Selbstmordattentäter des IS «in die Stadt einsickern», sagte Generalinspekteur Eberhard Zorn in Berlin.
Biden hatte vor Monaten versprochen, bis Ende August alle amerikanischen Truppen aus Afghanistan abzuziehen. Die militantislamistischen Taliban, die fast alle Landesteile Afghanistans sowie die Hauptstadt Kabul bis auf den Flughafen kontrollieren, pochten darauf, dass sich die Amerikaner an die Zusage halten. Die Islamisten machten zuletzt mehrfach klar, dass sie eine weitere Präsenz westlicher Streitkräfte nicht dulden würden.
Nach der Ankündigung von USPräsident Joe Biden, am Truppenabzug der amerikanischen Soldaten aus Afghanistan bis 31. August festhalten zu wollen, soll einem Medienbericht zufolge die BundeswehrLuftbrücke aus Kabul noch in dieser Woche enden. Die deutsche Luftbrücke werde nach gegenwärtiger Planung am Freitag eingestellt, berichtet das Wirtschaftsmagazin “Business Insider” unter Berufung auf übereinstimmende Informationen aus Kreisen des Verteidigungsministeriums und des Auswärtigen Amtes. Demnach soll an dem Tag die letzte Maschine aus Kabul nach Taschkent fliegen. Einzelheiten seien noch offen.

KABUL, KOMPAS.TV Taliban memperingatan Amerika Serikat dan sekutunya untuk menarik pasukan tentara militer sebelum 31 Agustus 2021 dari Bandara Kabul, Afghanistan.
AS dan kelompok negaranegara maju G7 sebenarnya tengah berkompromi untuk memperpanjang keberadaan tentara militer mereka di Bandara Kabul agar bisa melakukan evakuasi warga Afghanistan yang ingin pergi.
Namun, Juru Bicara Taliban menegaskan tak mau memperpanjang keberadaan militer asing.
“Mereka telah setuju untuk menarik semua pasukan mereka pada 1 Mei, tetapi mereka melanggar batas waktu itu. Sekarang mereka telah mengumumkan bahwa mereka akan menarik semua pasukan mereka pada 31 Agustus,” kata Suhail Shaheen Juru Bicara Taliban dilansir dari APTN (24/8/2021).
Suhail Shaheen juga mengingatkan jika melanggar akan menjadi pelanggaran yang jelas dan akan ada konsekuensi.
“Mereka harus mematuhi pengumuman mereka. Jika mereka melanggar, itu akan menjadi pelanggaran yang jelas. Dalam hal ini, terserah pada kepemimpinan kita untuk memutuskan bagaimana melanjutkan dan apa yang harus dilakukan,” kata Suhail.

How the mighty have fallen
This is not how it is done. The British tried their hardest to get out of places they had been with as little shit hitting the fan as they could. If possible they put their own people in charge before packing their bags. This retreat from empire has been made as damaging to all concerned as it could possibly be. WHY, is a great question? Why when it could have been done so differently? To my knowledge, no invading army has ever been this deliberately irresponsible. If so they would never have had the nerve to claim that it was anything other than a massive mistake.
The west had more respect for the Indian people in 1947, warning Gandi many times as to what would inevitably happen as soon as the British left.
What has been done in Afghanistan is perfectly unforgivable. The only good news is that Biden is already more than half dead, so his real punishment is not so long from coming.

Another one-term President.
It's so disappointing to see everyone in the media, even outside of the US, lambasting Biden for the one good thing he did in his career. This war was based on lies, accomplished nothing, cost ungodly amounts of lives and money and was never going to get any easier.
I don't know if it's the sunken cost fallacy, corruption, simple partisanship or all of the above, but I can't imagine any of the arguments against leaving are being made in good faith.
There was never going to be a good time to leave. There was never going to be any resistance to the Taliban. It's either this or endless war.
The error was going there in the first place. If the question is whether the fault lies with Biden or Trump, the answer is Bush.
I hope America bomb every military air base in Afghanistan so China and Russia don't use their missionaries to teach the Taliban how to use American equipment. Just bomb the hell out army bases in Afghanistan American military.

The statement added that the Taliban's actions in recent months and days are war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Taliban leadership seized control of Afghanistan (the reality) showing some sign of Islamic values when the media puts the spot light on them. Hopefully, they can control the lawlessness of many of fighters and foot soldiers on ground with more good Islamic values. Prayers for both sides to find common ground.
